Aryna Sabalenka will be world number one on Monday regardless of what happens at the US Open, but she's not focusing on that.

The Belarusian is still in the US Open's main draw with a decent chance of going all the way. After Jelena Ostapenko ousted Iga Swiatek, the Belarusian technically became the favourite to win the event.

Obviously, there are other players like Coco Gauff capable of winning, but Sabalenka went all the way at a Grand Slam level before, and experience matters. The defeat of Swiatek ensured that Sabalenka would be number one regardless of how far she goes and it's a dream come true obviously.

Still, being in the draw Sabalenka chooses to focus on the event first and any celebrations after. Winning the US Open would certainly add to the whole experience and that's the goal but it won't be easy.

I'm focusing on US Open. I don't want to celebrate anything before the end of the US Open. So I just want to focus on this tournament more than on world No. 1.

Pressed by reporters, Sabalenka further revealed that she didn't picture how the celebrations might look like though she kind of has an idea that it's going to be related to food. Being an athlete means a more controlled diet than the average person, but she likes to indulge in food when she has a chance.

No, not really, to be honest. Maybe I will eat pizza or burger. Always about the food. I mean, I like to eat. Sorry, guys. It is how it is.

Sabalenka ousted Daria Kasatkina for a spot in the quarter-final and will now face Qinwen Zheng for a spot in the semi-finals. The Chinese player ousted last year's finalist Ons Jabeur comfortably. They never faced each other so this should be rather interesting even though Sabalenka is the favourite.
