Confident Gauff Believes She 'Can Win Matches Not Playing Her Best Game' Ahead Of US Open

Coco Gauff will enter the US Open with a lot of confidence after a string of good performances on native soil recently.

The American didn't have a very good summer as Wimbledon especially ended on a sour note. She was determined to rectify things in the upcoming weeks and made a tremendous start at the Citi Open by winning the trophy at the WTA 500 tournament.

It was the biggest trophy she won up until that point, but that wouldn't remain so for long. She outplayed everyone to win the Cincinnati Masters, putting her candidacy for US Open winner forward. Speaking ahead of the event, Gauff admitted that she's a lot more confident than previously.

I think I'm obviously a lot more confident and, I don't know, I think the mindset is different. Having like that first-round loss at Wimbledon shows that it wasn't really as bad as it could happen, so I'm not going into this tournament worried if I lose early or not. I can't really control that result.

Gauff on being more confident about her tennis

Confidence is obviously very crucial for any player, and for Gauff, it manifests itself in the belief that she can win without playing her best. There was some doubt about that in the past, but now she fully believes that her B or C games are good enough to beat the most people.

I think now I'm going in with a lot more confidence. I feel like no matter the score line in the match, I can be able to problem solve and troubleshoot my way out. I know I can win matches not playing my best game now. I think I wasn't playing my best in every single match in D.C. and Cincinnati, it's impossible. I do feel I'm much more confident in my B or C game.
