Coco Gauff's 2023 campaign is over, and in many ways, it was career-changing and certainly life-changing, so what did she learn from it?

Well, there were plenty of lessons to take from this year. From opening the year on a high note and winning a trophy in Auckland to playing bad tennis in spring to then turning things completely around in late summer and finally achieving the best moment of her life on native soil in New York.

It was a crazy sequence of events but much needed. There is a saying that you grow up overnight, and it really felt that way for Gauff. She's broken through, and now it's time to really settle in as one of the best players in the world.

You know, I think I proved that I definitely have the ability to play & beat the top players in the game… the last couple of days were hard mentally, but I think I tried my best handling that. Overall, for the season, I think the biggest thing I’ll take away is not to put too much on a loss or too much on one part of your season.
Because obviously, it can turn around in a very different way. I think next year, there’s definitely gonna be a part of the season where I probably won’t play as well. It’s inevitable.
Every player has a part like that. I’ll try my best not to dwell on it and get out of it because I learned I’m capable of doing that. Hopefully, next year if it happens, I’ll try not to beat myself up too much.

Those are very mature and wise words from Gauff, who looks set to take over the game truly. We'll see how the season unfolds, but for now, it seems like Gauff will be in the mix for all the big trophies.
