'Bleep The Final': Gauff Wants To Forget Past Success At Roland Garros

Coco Gauff stood in the 2022 Roland Garros final but the American isn't thinking about that focusing on the present.

Many were impressed with the run Coco Gauff was able to put forward last year at Roland Garros making his way to the final. She did lose to Iga Swiatek in the final but it taught her a valuable lesson about letting things go and focusing on the present.

That lesson was very valuable in 2023 as she managed to remember that to overcome a slow start to win her opener. The American faced a tricky player in Rebeka Masarova but rallied to win the match in three after playing a bad first set.

Honestly, I can't say this word but I was like bleep the final. It's 2023, it's in the past so I'm not worried about that. And then the second set, same thing. I mean the first set, bleep the first set. It's over. So, I just told myself I had a bad game in the first set, a couple of great chances. So I knew that I was going to be able to turn it around, I just had to be aggressive on those moments.

Overcoming a slow start

Gauff will play a familiar player in the next round as she faced her a few weeks ago in the Billie Jean King Cup. That was an easy win for her but things might look a bit different on clay as Julia Grabher plays her best tennis on the surface and she looked really good in recent weeks. To win, Gauff will need her forehand which she claimed is a good weapon for her on clay.

Yeah, obviously when I played her in BJK Cup I had a good match. Her style of game is quite obvious. It's better on clay than hard, so the next match will be tough. I'm going to have to play a lot of balls obviously. I think she has a great forehand, so I'm going to have to deal with that. Yeah, that's the most I can give you off the top of my head.
