Bombshell reports from Italy a few days ago suggested that Camila Giorgi is being investigated for obtaining and using fake COVID-19 passes. Now, it has been reported that the Italian family is also being investigated.

The topic of whether players should take one of the COVID-19 vaccinations and if it should be mandatory is controversial. Neither the ATP nor the WTA makes receiving a COVID-19 vaccination mandatory.

However, the rules of some countries mean players would be unable to enter for tournaments unless they have a medical exemption. For example, Australia's rules mean it will only be possible to play at the Australian Open unless given an exemption that can be proved.

Giorgi enjoyed a solid, if unremarkable season on the WTA Tour in 2022. It seemed like she would slip under the radar and focus on preparing for the 2023 season without significant media attention.

Instead, controversy erupted when it was revealed that Giorgi was being investigated for pretending to have taken the COVID-19 vaccine and receiving a fake vaccination certificate to make the authorities think she had been vaccinated.

The accusation against the Italian was made by her family doctor. It is too early to predict what will happen in the investigation, but the saga could put Giorgi's career at risk if there are legal repercussions.

New reporting has now revealed that Giorgi's family members are also being investigated. It appears that the plot to get fake COVID-19 certificates could have been made by several of the Giorgi family if the claims are true.

Giorgi is an enjoyable player to watch, and she would be missed if she faced any consequences in this case. However, it is essential for all parties that the matter is resolved as quickly as possible.

The Italian's best achievement was winning the 2021 Canadian Open, one of the most surprising runs of that year.
