Serena Williams' final appearance as a professional player before retirement will include an appearance with her sister Venus Williams in the women's doubles.
Unsurprisingly, most of the focus has been on Serena's final singles appearance. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion is regarded by most as the greatest female tennis player ever.
However, she also holds an outstanding doubles record. All 14 of her Grand Slam doubles titles have come with sister Venus, a legend in the singles game in her own right with seven major titles.
The iconic pair have won six Wimbledons, four Australian Opens, two US Opens, and two French Opens in women's doubles. Incredibly, the duo has yet to lose a major doubles final as a partnership.
What makes their success even more remarkable is they did not enter most of the Grand Slams they were eligible for as a doubles pair. Both sisters did it for fun in a more relaxed way than their singles careers, yet won 14 of the 35 Grand Slams they entered.
Their last appearance as a partnership was at the 2018 French Open, where they reached the third round. But the millions of fans worldwide who love the sisters will get to see them play together at least one more time.
Serena and Venus have been given a wild card for their home Grand Slam. There was never any doubt about them being given one when it was requested due to it being Serena's last tournament and the attention their partnership will generate.
Wild cards were also given to Sophie Chang and Angela Kulikov, Robin Montgomery and CoCo Vandeweghe, Katrina Scott and Elizabeth Mandlik, Peyton Stearns and Ashlyn Krueger, Hailey Baptiste and Whitney Osuigwe, and Clervie Ngounoue and Reese Brantmeier.
It would be fitting if Serena and Venus had a great run in the women's doubles together in the final professional event of Serena's career.
