Venus Williams returned to the WTA Tour when she competed at the 2023 Libema Open and she was happy about her comeback.

The 42-year-old American is still competing and still giving her best on the tennis court in an attempt to record victories, but more importantly, have fun by playing the sport that she loves. In the first round in 's-Hertogenbosch, she lost to Celine Naef in three sets, but her comeback was worth a watch.

One former player that watched it was Venus' sister, Serena Williams, who traveled with her to watch the five-time Wimbledon champion return to the grass courts. Despite losing the first-round match against the Swiss player, Williams found positives in her comeback.

"Being on the court yesterday was thrilling! Just as exciting my family all came to cheer me on. Also I know I have all the support of my fans which means the world to me. I’m really happy with how I played and I am just getting used to playing matches again which is to be expected."

The American was happy about the support that she receives from the fans, but also the fact, that this time around, five months after the injury that kept her out of play, she didn't experience another one, and her grass-court season can continue.

"The best news is I walked off the court yesterday not hurt and not even sore after a long match and a string of really challenging injuries which means I have a chance to build on yesterdays performance in my next events."

Williams also showed her 'never give up' mentality and thanked the tournament organizers for welcoming her at the WTA 250 tournament in the Netherlands. Now, Venus will focus on the rest of the grass-court season, with the peak being at the tournament where she won five times in the past, the Wimbledon.

"It’s not easy to continue to come back after unexpected injuries and delays but that’s life and I love what I do and I believe in what I am doing. If you fall 10 times get up 11, never quit before the miracle. Thank you to the Libema open for such a wonderful week!"
