Bianca Andreescu won her maiden major in 2019 at the US Open and she's eyeing winning another one in the future.
History tells us that you never really know who will win a grand slam that year. Bianca Andreescu surprised many by winning one in 2019 and perhaps she will surprise many by winning one this year. It could even happen in Paris as she made a good start by beating Victoria Azarenka in the first round.
Finding herself struggling with tennis following the US Open triumph left her shocked for a while and it took time to build herself up to a very good level again. She also took a mental health break after experiencing a lack of motivation but she's back now and hungrier than ever.
Another motivating factor for Andreescu is her grandmother who told her recently that she wants to see her win another grand slam and she's really motivated to achieve it. Grandma up there in age makes every day valuable for Andreescu so she's grinding towards that.
I'm going to be honest. This match I started thinking about my grandmother because she's getting old, and I'm very close to her. She said, Bianca -- in Romanian, she doesn't speak English. She's, like, Bianca, I really want to watch you win another major. So I had that in the back of my head at one point when I was down 3-1. I was, okay, I started to get emotional too. At that point something, like, just came out of me, and I started playing better.
Andreescu was in trouble against Azarenka as the Belarusian was cruising toward what seemed like a sure victory. The Canadian rallied to come back by reminding herself of the little things that push her forward. Anything can be used as inspiration.
So I think just thinking about little things like that. Even reminding myself why I play the sport will definitely help.
