Alexander Zverev is back in an ATP final as the German battled past Arthur Fils in straight sets with a tremendous performance.

While off the courts, Zverev's life seems in turmoil with the abuse allegations, on the court, the German remains largely unbothered. The German played a really competitive match to take down Fils in straight sets to advance to his first final in 2023 at the Hamburg Open.

Fils has a superb forehand, a shot that gave him a lot of joy at this event, but there are very few players who can absorb power as well as Zverev can, especially on clay. It's how the German destroyed Alcaraz last year at Roland Garros, and Fils had similar problems to Alcaraz in this one.

He tried to assert his dominance in rallies, but it didn't really work out that well. He also didn't play the most crucial rallies better, as the German converted both break points in the first set. He saved both he faced, and that was enough for the 6-2 scoreline

The second set saw Zverev continue to do what he did so well until then, as he didn't even allow a break point this time around. The serve started to do its thing, and that was enough for Zverev to cruise to a comfortable finish.

A superb performance from Zverev, who advanced to his first final in a while, the first this year, and it happening in his hometown of Hamburg, only makes it better. Winning a trophy could be the thing he needs to finally unleash the level had had at the time of his injury last year.

The final score of the match was 6-2 6-4 for the German who moves on to face Laslo Djere in the final. The Serbian defeated Zhizhen Zhang earlier today. Zverev is undefeated in two matches against Djere so far.
