'Wish I Didn't Have To Deal With Prime Federer And Nadal' Says Kyrgios

by Sebastian Dahlman

Nick Kyrgios spent a good portion of his career battling Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, and he would be happier if he didn't have to.

Nick Kyrgios is part of the Tennis Channel's coverage of the ATP Finals. During a segment, the Australian lamented the fact that he came up in tennis at a time when prime Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal dominated.

Kyrgios and the panel were talking about the state of current tennis in reference to several young guys coming up, like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Holger Rune.

The Australian came up at a time when there were many great players on top of just the best days of players like Federer and Nadal with an emerging Djokovic as well. Breaking out during that time was pretty tough, and Kyrgios wouldn't have minded playing a weaker field.

I wish I could turn back the clock maybe 10 years and I wish I was coming up during this time so I didn't have to deal with prime Federer and prime Nadal. That would have been nice.

The conversation then shifted to whether Kyrgios sees an opening for himself in the current landscape of tennis, and he certainly does. He still feels like he can compete with most of these players, especially at Wimbledon.

As soon as I'm healthy again. I feel ike I got a chance to do some big things at Wimbledon.

This year has been pretty bad for Kyrgios with the injury úrpbôe,s. He dealt with a knee injury while, more recently, the wrist has been troubling him. He hopes to get back as soon as possible, but rumor has it that he won't be fit for the Australian Open.

That's pretty heart-breaking but fans are hoping for a return before Wimbledon at least.
