Stefanos Tsitsipas might have lost his first match at the ATP Finals, but he's aiming at a higher level of excellence in the next match.

That's not entirely problematic on its own, but when you remember that his next match is against Novak Djokovic, then you start to see it. Tsitsipas had a weird season. It started with a bang at the Australian Open as he made the final only to lose to Novak Djokovic.

Many assumed that he would keep the good level up, but he didn't. He struggled during the clay season, played a solid Wimbledon event, and greatly disappointed in the United States.

He did win a trophy at the Los Cabos Open, but that's about the only big thing he did. He did play a bit better in Paris and looked to be trending in the right direction, but overall, Tsitsipas is nowhere near the level he can be, and it showed in his first match.

He was beaten easily by Jannik Sinner, who is playing at a really high level right now. The level Tsitsipas aspires to be at is the level Sinner is at currently, but the Greek is not giving up.

He's going to try and find it in the next match against Novak Djokovic. Speaking after his match against Sinner, Tsitsipas talked about some of the things that need to improve.

Well, my return games. Just press more, put more returns deep into the court. Just get started with my shot-making from the baseline. Whenever I get a short one, just come in.
I see this tournament for me also an opportunity for me to grow my game through maybe bigger risks. Why not? It's a great tournament and I really want to do well here. At the same time I want to try things in which I believe I can achieve a higher level of excellence when I approach my game with that mindset.
