"The Italian crowd is great until you play in Italy" - Medvedev talks Italian Open experience

Daniil Medvedev knows a thing or two about crowds having experienced both cheering and booing and he reflected on Holger Rune's recent experience.

The Italian Open is an interesting experience as the Italian fans are known as really passionate, especially when it comes to backing their own players. Holger Rune experienced that more than once with his first instance coming in Monte-Carlo recently.

The second time it happened was in Rome recently ahead of his match against Fognini as he was booed while entering the court. It was widely condemned on social media by many fans but that's just how passionate the Italians are when it comes to their players. Medvedev knows it best but the Dane won which is the best response.

The Italian crowd is great until you play in Italy. That it’s a tough one. It’s understandable but it’s a tough one. I saw the video when Holger went on the court and I was like, ‘ooohhh’. He won, that’s the most important.

Despite clashing with crowds often Medvedev enjoys that part of the sport. He also enjoys playing in Italy because they are quite engaged during a match but if you play against an Italian it's not going to be that enjoyable of an experience.

I love the Italian crowd. Honestly I feel like again if you don’t play an Italian guy they’re very respectful. The energy is amazing, probably the biggest in the world. Maybe Mexico, like South American countries, can be close to this. It's great, I’m feeling great and looking forward for more matches with this great crowd.
