Carlos Alcaraz has a growing list of admirers thanks to his incredible tennis which he flaunts pretty much any time he plays.
The Spaniard has quickly become one of the biggest tennis stars in the world with his level rapidly improving over the past year. It's very hard to play against him which Tallon Griekspoor had the chance to experience it personally. He faced Alcaraz in 2022 at Wimbledon and the 2023 Indian Wells losing both matches
He's one of the best players in the world. He has everything it takes to win unlimited tournaments, unlimited Slams. In the Indian Wells first set, I felt like I was on top of him. I was disappointed because I felt like I could have won the first set. And whenever you lose that first set and you drop like 1-2%, he's all over you.
Discussing Alcaraz further, Griekspoor singled out the forehand as a major weapon of the Spanish player along with the drop shot that he hides very well. The drop shot is a staple in his clay tennis which is already among some of the best in the world.
I think the biggest weapon for him is still the forehand, which he has so much power in and then he has the drop shot, you don't see it coming. That's what he did against Medvedev so well, especially since [Daniil] Medvedev was returning from so far.
And finally, he marvelled at him being able to do all of that as a teenager. Only sky is the limit for him which is something others like Martina Navratilova echoed before, but we'll have to wait for the start of his clay season.
The Spaniard revealed on Tuesday that he'll be missing Monte-Carlo due to another injury.
To do these kinds of things at the age of 19, he's impressive and he's still young. He's still going to give you some points where I feel like Novak or Rafa don't give you any points. But he's so good in everything he does.
