Carlos Alcaraz has proven himself to be very mentally tough and according to former player Monica Seles, it's as good as that of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
One year ago Alcaraz was touted as a pretty big talent in tennis that has a chance to become great. Fast forward to today, we're already talking in superlatives when it comes to the Spaniard and it's quite clear that he's not even peaked yet.
It's not a surprise because it comes after he put forward a superbly impressive year, one that we haven't seen from a youngster in quite a while. The world has become so used to the same players dominating in tennis that most of us kind of forgot that it's possible for a new shiny thing to emerge.
That proved to be Alcaraz and many were enamoured by what he was always to show on a tennis court. Former player Monica Seles, who is no stranger to wowing the world at a young age counts herself among those amazed by Alcaraz and she actually believes that he's demonstrated the best mental fortitude since Nadal and Djokovic.
I'm surprised by Alcaraz's mental strength being so young. I only saw it before in Nadal and Djokovic. We are going to see Carlos win many more Majors because he is capable of being competitive on any kind of surface and withstand matches as long as the ones he won at the last U.S. Open.
It's a pretty big statement from Seles but it's not hard to understand why. He's certainly established himself as one of the best young players with a very good chance to win several grand slam events in the future.
That alone would be a huge deal but he's shown glimpses of inexperience as well. He lost to Sinner last year in Umag after winning the opening set and was beaten by Musetti in the Hamburg final as well.
