Doubting player's injuries is, unfortunately, nothing new in the world of tennis and now also Holger Rune experienced it.
While the older players on the ATP Tour are used to statements about their injuries, some of the NextGen players may not be accustomed to it, as it's something that may appear incomprehensible when it happens for the first time.
Rafael Nadal's triumph at Roland Garros last year was marked by an injury that was doubted by fans, and this year's triumph of Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open was no different, with fans again doubting his injury.
Playing through an injury and winning is something that the best demonstrated throughout history and young Danish prodigy Holger Rune also showed why he may add his name to the list of the greats in the future as he fought and won in the 2023 Munich Open final.
However, Rune's triumph was marked by injuries that he experienced during the third set, with some fans even doubting his twisted ankle, which became hilarious after a footage of the young Dane clearly twisting his ankle emerged.
In the eighth game of the third set of the final match against Botic van de Zandschulp, the teenager was able to produce a sensational rally and win a point and the video was shared by the ATP Tour, praising the young Dane for 'leaving it all out there'.
But one of the fans couldn't appreciate the fighting spirit of the Dane, but they rather focused on Rune's injuries which weren't real in their opinion.
"Rune is such a con artist on court with makeshift injuries playing Munich final. Was being out played like the baby he is and pretend injury to put off opponent he is such a child no problem running full speed to the net."
After the match, Holger Rune himself noticed the comment and responded to it, clarifying how many matches he had to play over the past period and also emphasizing that it was the final match and he didn't want to quit.
"I played more than 10 matches the past 2 weeks. My body is done right now but still I wanted to fight til the end. It’s a final. I don’t quit."
