A lot of people expect many great things from Carlos Alcaraz during the US Open stretch and Goran Ivanisevic is among them.
The Croatian had a very good seat to some of the best performances we've seen out of Alcaraz, and he certainly knows his game very well. After all, he plotted with Novak Djokovic many times about how to beat the Spaniard, and while they came close in London, the Spaniard still found a way to win.
The next rounds of this matchup will come in the coming weeks as a showdown at the US Open looks very likely. As the defending champion, Alcaraz is expected to go deep, while Djokovic is always a threat in a Grand Slam.
There will be other players who could challenge him, namely Jannik Sinner, in the mind of Ivanisevic. The rest of the field, though, doesn't seem to be up to the task, according to the Croatian coach who talked to Sportske Novosti. Staying at Alcaraz's pace is extremely hard, and in his mind, only two players can do it.
Yes, it will be an interesting rivalry. Each of their matches is tense. There is no one who can stay in a long match with Alcaraz except Sinner and Djokovic. Those who can't stay long at Alcaraz's pace can immediately pack their rackets and go home.— Ivanisevic on Sinner and the rest of the field<br>
Ivanisevic is certainly among the biggest fans of Alcaraz on the ATP Tour, despite coaching possibly his biggest rival. He showered him with praise more than once, especially recently after the impressive Wimbledon triumph. It was the latest installment in the Djokovic - Alcaraz rivalry, one that Ivanisevic expects to be even better moving forward.
Whether we get that match or not in New York remains to be seen, but it's pretty clear that those two are the two best players on the ATP Tour, similar to how we have three players above everyone else on the WTA Tour.
