Novak Djokovic has been quite open about his 2024 goals, and he affirmed them ahead of the 2024 Australian Open.
One thing that separates Djokovic from some other players is that he speaks his mind. He is well aware of his qualities and talks a big game because he knows he can walk it as well. He's open about his goals and his desire to break as many records as he can.
That's a bit different from the usual gentlemen's talk we got from Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who portrayed themselves as humble competitors. In Djokovic's case, he's been open about his insatiable drive to be the best, which he ultimately became.
Ahead of the first Grand Slam of 2024, Djokovic reaffirmed his desire to win the Calendar Slam, which can only happen if he wins the Australian Open. The funny thing is that he said it isn't a secret, showing how comfortable he is with announcing his goals, no matter how lofty they are.
"Well, look, it's no secret that I verbalize my goals and I say clearly that I want to win every slam that I participate and play on. It's no different this year."
"I'm just hoping I can start the season in a way that I have been starting my seasons, most of my seasons, throughout my career: with a win here in Australia, in Melbourne. My favorite place, no doubt. The court where I've done great things and achieved my greatest Grand Slam results."
We'll see if Djokovic will triumph in Australia again, as that would be his 11th time doing so. It would be the ideal start to the season, but for now, we only know whom he'll face tomorrow on Day 1 of the event. He'll play Dino Prizmic, a qualifier who should be a good introduction for Djokovic.
