Murray Set To Undergo Back Procedure After Latest Injury Upset

| by Zachary Wimer

Andy Murray recently suffered a back injury during the 2024 Cinch Championships, and his brother Jamie provided an update about Andy's injury.

The former world no. 1 spoke to the media fairly recently, admitting that he wouldn't want to miss Wimbledon or the Olympics because of an injury, but it's a possibility. The Brit is essentially playing his final season after confirming earlier this year that this will be his final year on the ATP Tour, and it doesn't seem promising right now.

His most recent match was against Jordan Thompson at the Queen's Club Championships, and it was a very short match because he clearly wasn't fully healthy. He took a medical timeout but eventually retired, as it was clear that he couldn't keep going.

His brother Jamie Murray spoke to the BBC and provided an update on his brother's injury, but he wouldn't go into the details, feeling that it wasn't his place to do so.

"He saw a specialist yesterday evening and he’s basically trying to decide what his next move is. I don’t think it’s right for me to go into that personally, that’s up to him, but I think he has got a few decisions to make."

"It’s obviously incredibly disappointing for him that this was potentially going to be his last Queen’s, last Wimbledon and Olympics, and there’s a potential that that might not be able to happen. I think he’s got to make a few decisions, and see where he goes from there."

Jamie's update of the matter didn't sound too optimistic because it implies that Murray might have to decide to skip both Wimbledon and the Olympics. Obviously, that would be tragic for the three-time major winner, who is finishing his career, but he admitted that he wasn't looking for a perfect ending.
