Alexander Zverev vs Hubert Hurkacz: 2024 Halle Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Alexander Zverev and Hubert Hurkacz will meet in the 2024 Halle Open semi-final, fighting for a spot in the final of the ATP 500 tournament.

Zverev has been playing pretty solid tennis in Halle this year, even though his grass track record is not the best. The German is coming off a great run at Roland Garros, where he made the final but failed to win the trophy.

He's not feeling the effect of that run in Halle, as he was able to book a semi-final with solid wins. His level is good enough, which makes this upcoming matchup very fascinating.

Hurkacz is a former champion of the Halle Open, winning the event in 2022 with a tremendous win over Daniil Medvedev. He's no stranger to the event or playing well in the German city, so this will be far from easy for the top seed.

Head-to-head:

The two have played three times so far, and interestingly enough, the Polish player has never beaten Zverev. It's 3-0 for the German, including a match this year at the United Cup, which he won in three sets.

The previous two meetings were competitive as well, and generally, there is a trend that Hurkacz keeps it close. He's likely to keep it close in this match as well because the court in Halle helps his game. Both players should dominate on their servers, which means it will be a very close match.

Prediction:

Zverev should be able to win this match because he seems capable of going a level higher than Hurkacz. He's more prone to making more mistakes as well, but if it comes to one player having to step up and win, it's likely to be the German.

Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in three sets.
