The hard-court season is right behind the corner and many wonder if Novak Djokovic will be allowed to play in Canada and at the 2022 US Open.

While the experienced Serbian continues to drop hints that he could be able to compete at the 2022 US Open, his participation in Montreal is in doubt. Previously, the Minister of Health of Canada stated that "the rules apply to everyone" and now, also the tournament director of the upcoming ATP 1000 event in Montreal claimed that it will be impossible for Novak Djokovic to compete unless the rules change or he gets vaccinated.

"We will have a great tournament. All the best players will be there except for two and we know the reasons for their absence." One of the absent players should be Alexander Zverev who is recovering from an injury he suffered at the 2022 Roland Garros, and the second is Novak Djokovic.

"Either the Canadian government is going to change the rules regarding vaccination or he is going to roll up his sleeves and get the vaccine. But I don't think any of those scenarios are realistic," Eugene Lepierre said.
