Daniil Medvedev created a viral tennis moment during the China Open trophy ceremony, and he's now explained what happened.
Medvedev and Sinner recently contested the China Open final in which the Italian bested the Russian comfortably. It was a huge win for Sinner, but the show was stolen by a funny interaction between the players during the trophy ceremony.
After taking pictures together, Medvedev grabbed a plushie from Sinner's trophy. For a brief moment, Sinner looked confused, which made the whole video hilarious, and it became viral on social media.
Many jokingly accused Medvedev of 'theft' because of it, but he's now explained what it was all about. Both players received a toy from the event during the ceremony and Sinner put his in the trophy which was an open one.
Medvedev did the same in order to take the picture properly and then grabbed his which was shown on the video. Sinner's brief moment of confusion was about whether Medvedev grabbed the right one.
It was mine. It was mine. The thing is that they gave us both a toy, and he put his straight away in his trophy, in the cup, and me, I didn't want to be with a toy on the pictures because I knew that it's a great picture, so I put mine in his cup and took it back, and I was actually even a little bit surprised it made such a buzz.
Despite the video becoming viral and surprising Medvedev, he looked at the funny side of knowing that some pictures do come out funny. As a player who is described as an octopus, Medvedev has a fair share of these funny pictures.
But some of the videos and photos are really funny, the way I took it and just left, but it was my toy.
