Daniil Medvedev has reacted to the news of Wimbledon allowing players to return at the event explaining that he's really happy.

Wimbledon announced yesterday that they will be allowing Russian and Belarusian players to compete at this year's event. It comes after they were banned last year which created all sorts of trouble for the event including the striping of points awarded.

Medvedev was asked about the decision following his win over Khachanov at the Miami Open and he confirmed it was very good news and that's happy about it. He didn't seem surprised, indicating that he probably knew it was coming after reports last week.

Yeah, the thing is that when you read media, you know kind of, I already saw one week ago that it might be happening but still not official so you never know. So today I guess it's official. So I'm really happy.

The decision comes with a few caveats as the player will need to sign a declaration that they don't support the war or the regimes of their respective countries which might be problematic for some. They will also need to cut off any state funding, which is another major blow for the countries in the PR department, but it seems like Medvedev is willing to do both.

I don't have any Russian sponsors, and yeah, I'm gonna play there like we played all the last year every other tournament, to be honest. Yeah, again, I'm gonna be happy to be there.

Medvedev on the caveats

He reiterated his love for the event despite not having the greatest of results in the past. He's eager to change that later this year when he returns to London.

I always said that I love this tournament. It's the only Grand Slam, which is surprising when we have Roland Garros, that I didn't make quarters yet, and I want to do better. I think I lost, what, five sets to Hubi and to Goffin maybe was third round five sets. But anyway, I had some tough losses there. I want to try to turn this around. It's a beautiful tournament, beautiful Grand Slam. I'm really happy that I'm going to be able to play there this year.
