Nick Kyrgios was supposed to play at the Srpska Open according to Novak Djokovic's brother Djordje who is the tournament director.

Both Novak and Djordje Djokovic are active in tennis. One brother is one of the best players in the history of the sport while the other handles the Serbia Open trying to make it one of the most respectable tennis events in the world. This year that event was held in Banja Luka as the Belgrade Tennis Centre underwent renovations ahead of an ATP 500 bid next year.

It was a pretty good event with a lot of good players showing up alongside Novak Djokovic who ultimately lost to eventual champion Dusan Lajovic. One player Djordje hoped to see was Nick Kyrgios who was apparently willing to play some clay tennis in Banja Luka.

The contract was never signed, but I am still in contact with his people to this day. I am almost convinced that he would have played in Banja Luka, let's say 99 percent, only if not for the surgery. I think he is also sorry, because he is first of all a great entertainer of the audience, but also a great tennis player.

Djokovic and Kyrgios have become pretty good mates on the Tour after Kyrgios spoke up for Novak during the situation with his Australian visa two years ago. Djordje referenced that when speaking about Kyrgios admitting that it is his great wish to see Kyrgios in either Belgrade or Banja Luka in the future.

He is great and honest. When the world turned against Novak, he was the first to stand behind him and against his government. He will never forget that and, as far as we are concerned, he will always be welcomed with open arms and the door is always open to him. He is quite young, Novak has who knows how many more years to play, so we will certainly succeed in bringing him to Belgrade, and maybe to Banja Luka one day, we will see.
