Kyrgios Explains Why He's Refusing To Have A Coach

by Alfredo Bassanelli

Nick Kyrgios is quite a character but he's a pretty normal guy that simply doesn't leave too much for imagination.

If you ever wondered who is Nick Kyrgios you don't have to. The Australian has been pretty open about who he is and what makes him tick which is rather unique. Being in the public eye from his teenage years, Kyrgios never pretended to be something he was not.

He's not perfect, he makes plenty of mistakes but he admits it. He tries to be the best he can and it's why so many feel drawn to him. Being a pretty good tennis player who plays in an exciting manner certainly helps. There is plenty unique about him but not having a coach is certainly something that's not very common in tennis.

While some players are known to change coaches often Kyrgios doesn't have anything to change. He doesn't have a coach and it's been like that for a while. He finds the setup really good for him and it's hard to argue against it. You don't get to the Wimbledon final by chance.

I’ve found a way without it. I feel like it’s hard for me to let someone into my team and my experiences. I know my game the best and it’s hard for me to find a coach who will care about my best interests.

Kyrgios on not having a coach

Plenty would be interested as Kyrgios is a tremendous talent. Novak Djokovic joked a few times that he'd like to coach Kyrgios promising him a couple of Grand Slams. Well, Kyrgios has some things to say about that proposal.

[Laughs] I think most coaches wouldn’t mind taking me on because it would be a roller coaster and there would be a lot of fun. But I’m not sure Novak would take it too seriously.

Perhaps we might see that in the future but for now, the best thing they can give a fans is a rematch at Wimbledon.
