Kei Nishikori came back to tennis earlier this year and looked pretty good before suffering a setback that kept him away from the courts.
Kei Nishikori dealt with a lot of injuries in recent years, which was tough to accept. He was on the verge of quitting tennis but ultimately elected to push through and overcame an absence of almost two years to return this year.
He played well on his return, but it didn't last long enough. A knee injury popped up again, causing him to miss a lot of time, but he's not going to give up. Nishikori is determined to give it one real push before calling it quits for good.
In June I came back for the first time in a while and played in a few events, started feeling better. Then my knee has started getting worse, and here I am. I had to withdraw from all the event, the USO that I was really looking forward to playing.
Nishikori was back in Japan hoping to play some local events, but he didn't recover in time. He missed the Japan Open and a few ATP Challenger events as well, but the hope is to be ready as soon as possible. He detailed some of its plans for the upcoming future.
"What I have to do remains the same, I go to the gym on a daily basis telling myself that I'm gonna be fine someday. These days I can't still move (freely on the court) but keep playing tennis, so I hope I'm almost there."
I've not given up (playing in Japan), will try hard to play remaining two Challengers (Yokohama & Yokkaichi). If I can't play these tournaments, I'll try my best to be ready for the AO. Believing all these days will help me to improve
