Jannik Sinner Officially Qualifies For 2023 ATP Finals In Turin

by Sebastian Dahlman

Italian fans can rejoice as Jannik Sinner ensured that the country will have a representative at the ATP Finals in Turin.

Jannik Sinner will play at the 2023 ATP Finals after securing a spot with some amazing performances in the past week. The Italian put together a really strong effort to emerge as the champion of the China Open last week despite struggling with an apparent injury earlier at the event.

Those 500 points basically ensure that he'll be there in Turin which is a major achievement for Sinner who truly has had an amazing season. He became the first Italian player to win 50 matches in almost 50 years and will be the sole representative of his country on native soil.

There were some doubts about whether Sinner would be there even though he was most likely out of all the players contending to secure a spot. He was asked about it following his Shanghai Masters opening-round win and admitted to knowing it before the match.

He's happy about it, especially since the event will be in front of Italian fans, who always bring out great energy for their home player.

I knew it before the match, so I wanted to accomplish this here. I’m very very happy. It was our main goal of the season. I’m very happy I’m officially in Turin. It means a lot, playing in front of the home crowd there. This event is coming in a couple of months. I’ll just try to stay focused. I know I can play well also here. Let’s stay in the present moment.

It's not the first time Sinner will play in Turin as he played at the event in 2021 as a substitute. He replaced fellow Italian Matteo Berrettini at the event smashing Hurakcz in two sets but losing to Medvedev in the other match.
