'It Will Be A Different Story': McEnroe Reacts To Possible Alcaraz's Team Europe Involvement

Carlos Alcaraz didn't play for Team Europe in this past Laver Cup, but he might in the future, and John McEnroe reacted to that.

It's been two in a row for Johnny Mac as his team bested Team Europe once more. Just like in London last year, McEnroe led his team to victory, though this time around, it proved much easier. Team Europe not having their best players contributed to that, but that might change in the future.

Roger Federer spoke passionately about getting Carlos Alcaraz on board for next year, and that's bad news for Team World. McEnroe talked about the talent of Team Europe, which gave them trouble in years past. He called it a David vs. Goliath matchup.

Obviously in a competition it's about winning. I think we did have a good team spirit for years. It wasn't getting us a whole lot. We were close a couple times, but it's frustrating. You know, it's a little bit of that David versus Goliath

McEnroe on Team Europe

The shortcomings of Team Europe were pretty evident to everybody on Team World, so McEnroe revealed that they knew this had to be a dub for them. After all, they might return with a much stronger team next year and it's going to be a problem.

We came here and we sort of looked at what happened, a couple guys pulled out and we're, like, Wait a minute, not only could we but we should in our minds do it and come out. We've got to take advantage of this, and so I think these guys are getting it, because I think in a couple of years, I mean, obviously next year it's going to be a different story.

We'll be back in Europe. A couple of guys, you know, Carlos Alcaraz, if he plays, it will be obviously a different story right off the bat. So we've got to take advantage of this opportunity and get some momentum.
