Novak Djokovic delivered Stefanos Tsitsipas quite a bit of inspiration when he defeated him in the Australian Open final recently.
The Greek player lost the second Grand Slam final against Djokovic, and he looks to him as an example of what is possible in tennis. The two first met in the 2021 French Open final, which the Serbian player won 6-7(6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
Now, Djokovic won in a much more convincing fashion, beating Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5), in the final of the Australian Open.
Djokovic is a player many look up to, and Tsitsipas, maybe also because of his losses in the finals of the majors, considers him an inspiration in the way he approaches tennis.
"I take Djokovic as an example, who for the last few years, we thought he had reached the highest level that tennis has to offer, and every year, he shows that he is even better than the year before. This inspires me and I have him as a role model at this time."
Similar to Djokovic, Tsitsipas looks to get to perfection on the tennis court. He's trying to improve slowly over time because he's making small changes in the way he both approaches and plays tennis.
Asked to elaborate on that, he explained that he's been trying to change his game mechanically to be able to serve more precisely.
"Mechanically some small things I've changed that help me find the corners of the court better, mainly in serving placement. I have improved it a lot and it comes from the shafts of the arm, the elbow."
"They are small technical changes that I made in the preseason and I have dedicated myself to them to reach perfection if possible, or as close to it as possible because I don't think there is perfection."
