'I Don't Care, I Want Trophy': Tiafoe On Being Last American Man At Roland Garros

Frances Tiafoe was the last American man standing at the 2023 Roland Garros, but like his compatriot, he too will be going home empty-handed.

The American was playing in the final match of the day against Alexander Zverev and he played well taking the first set but ultimately losing in four sets. It was a disappointing finish for Tiafoe who has dreams of holding one of those grand slam trophies one day.

It's the main motivating factor for him which is why he doesn't care about anything else. He was notified during his post-match press conference that he was the last American standing in the ATP draw but it didn't matter to him. He didn't get what he came for - the trophy.

I mean, yeah, but it just so happened I played later than Taylor. It's not like -- we both lost in the third round. I mean, that's tough. I just want to see those guys win. It's not really about I'mthe last American and I take pride. I don't really care. I want to hold the trophy. I want to hold the slam

His best event chance came at last year's US Open where he played amazing tennis making his way to the semi-finals but again coming up short. It's been a solid year so far for him with a trophy in Houston that left him even more hungry for the future.

The US Open will be a goal again and considering how he played last year he should be considered a good candidate. He's always been a good player on US soil proving it again this year in Indian Wells where he made a run to the semi-final losing to Medvedev in the end.

I'm not really concerned about being the only American. I'm not really concerned about being the last American in the slam. I just want to see all those guys do well, and hopefully, by the time we're all done we all get on.
