Holger Rune is very serious about tennis as he once described himself as obsessed with tennis, and some anecdotes from his childhood days demonstrate that pretty well.
Holger Rune is very invested in tennis, which he confirmed a few times. His commitment to the sport is well known, so much so that Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed worry about him burning himself out.
So far, that's not happened so far, although his recent results make it seem so. He hopes to turn things around in the coming weeks and enlisted the help of Boris Becker to get it done.
We'll see what happens with that, but being in love with the sport is something that followed him since he was little.
His mother Aneke revealed some stories about his childhood during a recent episode of the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, explaining that a young Rune thought not playing tennis was a punishment.
When he was younger, when he needed a day off from tennis, we said, 'No, no, you can’t have Saturday or Sunday; we need to take off,' and he said, 'But what did I do wrong?' And it was like, 'But you did nothing wrong, but you also need to do other things.' He saw it as kind of a punishment for not being able to go to the club and play tennis.
He's still as in love with tennis as he was back then but being an adult now, Rune fully understands the importance of rest and breaks. He's become much more smarter with his scheduling and just the way he approaches the sport.
Later on, he now feels in his body that it is so much more demanding, so he really enjoys some days off here and there. So now it’s much easier to make him understand that days off are really good.
