Djokovic Reveals How His Daughter Gave Him Energy During US Open Final

Novak Djokovic drew energy from his daughter during his US Open final as she was sitting where he could clearly see her.

The Serbian had his family in attendance for what ended up being a historic moment as she extended his lead in the Grand Slam race. It was an interesting match although not entirely complicated for the Serbian who prevailed in three sets.

There was a hole in his game in the second set when Medvedev looked very close to winning the set. Djokovic drew energy from his daughter sitting courtside, not wanting to disappoint her by losing such a big match.

I was watching her the entire match. She was sitting in the front row; she was facing me when I was sitting on the bench, and we laughed at each other several times.

She showed me the fist pump. She is only six years old, and in exactly the moments when I needed to have this playfulness and this joy and to relax a little bit in high stress – particularly in the second set – she looked at me and she gave me this energy.

The Serbian ultimately escaped with the second set, even though he knows he probably should have lost it. That relieved him greatly as he kept applying pressure, ultimately sealing the win in three sets.

The first thing he did after winning was go over to his daughter and hug her. The reason why is that she helped him win.

That is why I went to her first – of course because she is my daughter, but she also helped me the most in this match. I love her so much, and to have her, my wife, my son [Stefan] and my parents – I felt everyone's support and love. This is their trophy as well.
