Novak Djokovic is in London with his family and cherishes having them at Wimbledon with him as he attempts to make history.
Being a tennis player and a father can be very taxing as you're on the road a lot of the time. Thanks to his hard work, Djokovic can afford the privilege of having his family with him on the road, at least this fortnight in London.
Speaking after his round one win over Pedro Cachin, Djokovic talked about the blessing of being a father of two angels, sharing that his son Stefan has a really palpable passion for the sport. He basically never wants to leave the side of his father.
It's such a thrill, it's such a pleasure. I'm blessed to be a father of two angels. They're here in London since yesterday, they arrived with my wife (Jelena). My son Stefan, he's eight years old and he's excited about tennis, about tennis world, about anything that is related to tennis.
Whether it is watching tennis, playing tennis, picking up balls-whatever. He asked me last night, he was like, 'Daddy, I know you're leaving early but I want to be with you, you know from the moment you leave the house, I want to be with you the entire day'.
Stefan has held a racquet before and he's quite fond of it. His favourite player is Rafael Nadal though he's a very good assistant to his father when he needs to prepare for a match. The moments he can spend with his children are quite relaxing for Djokovic.
So it makes me feel not only happy, but it also relaxes me a bit. Because prior to the match, you're obviously handling your nerves and you're a bit stressed out. You know, the anticipation before the match, preparing yourself so it kind of removes the tension as well.
Seeing his kid be so happy on a tennis court brings a lot of memories from Djokovic who expressed the same interest in the sport when he was younger. It's basically coming full circle for Djokovic after seeing his son do what he used to do.
When I see him and how joyful he is just being on the court, it kind of brings me back to the days that I was very young and looking up to all the players and trying to be part of this world in any shape or form.
