Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have been the two best players this year on the ATP Tour, and multiple stats back that claim.
There are many ways we can prove this claim, and you only really need to look at the stats. Djokovic has been the best player this year simply because he played the best in the events that mattered the most.
He won three out of the four Grand Slams this year, and those are the most important events on the calendar. Alcaraz won the 4th one at Wimbledon by beating Djokovic in the final, and he added a couple of trophies along the way too, leading the Tour in trophies.
Those two stats alone prove that these two players have been the best players this year on Tour. However, there are other stats that solidify that claim even further.
One of those is the winning percentage, which shows how many matches they won compared to the number of matches they played. As you might expect, it's really dominant for both Djokovic and Alcaraz, which makes sense.
Can't win so many tournaments without winning many matches. Djokovic leads in winning percentage as it's a ridiculous 90 %. The Serbian played 50 matches this year and won 45 matches which is 90 %.
Alcaraz is slightly behind with a winning percentage of 87.5 %. That's pretty darn impressive especially when you consider that he played 72 matches and won 63 of them.
It might be even more impressive than Djokovic's record because he's had many more chances to actually lose a match by playing so many, and quite a few losses came relatively recently, too. It looked far more impressive earlier in the year.
The 3rd best is Daniil Medvedev, with an 81.1 % winning percentage, which is also pretty impressive. Fourth is Jannik Sinner, with a 78 % winning percentage.
