Casper Ruud is excited to be back in Spain as he loves the country and he loves to play tennis on his preferred surface of clay.

Ruud has struggled with his tennis so far this year but the Norwegian rediscovered winning ways recently in Estoril winning his first trophy of the year. A trophy on clay at the Madrid Open should not surprise anyone as Ruud won the majority of his trophies on that surface. It's his favourite one, he plays the best tennis here and he hopes to prove himself on the Madrid clay as well.

I feel good. Madrid is a nice big capital city in Europe. This is my favourite time of the year, closer to home and when I can play on clay. I love to be in Spain. It’s a great country to play tennis in. The fans are incredible and it’s a very fun couple of weeks that we have ahead of us coming up at Roland Garros.

Ruud has opened up about his struggles this year more than once admitting some of the mistakes he had in planning out the season. He spoke about being in constant talk with his team about what is working and is not working and how they can improve upon his results. There are a lot of things that he's not been satisfied with but he identified them and is working on changing it.

I’m talking all the time with my team about how I feel on court, what I felt didn’t go so well. I’m playing a little bit too defensive and sometimes I’m playing too short. So I think the players I play step in and play aggressive against me, and then lately I think I have been hoping too much for mistakes from the opponent, rather than trying to be aggressive myself. That’s something I need to change and I have to stay in the rallies more and not let my opponents attack me as much. That is the goal I think over the coming weeks.
