Boris Becker revealed that Novak Djokovic gets motivated when the crowd supports his opponent more than him.
The German used to coach Djokovic for a time and he knows him pretty well. The Serb considers him a friend and called him and spoke in his favour during his trial last year that sent him to prison for a few months. Djokovic being emotional is nothing new, we've seen it numerous times but Becker provided more insight into his personality.
Novak is very emotional. He always gets temperamental when the crowd supports the other guy. And he's using that to show with his fingers off into the crowd that you have woken me up now. I'm going to beat this guy.
Sometimes it works out in the favour of Djokovic because fur much of his career he wasn't the crowd favourite. There are very few places where he would get more of the crowd support than the underdog but it's gotten better in recent years.
Becker made the comments in his Apple TV documentary which Djokovic participated in as well. They spoke about the famous Wimbledon final against Federer where Djokovic managed to win the match despite tremendous pressure coming from the crowd itself as they wanted Federer to badly win. Djokovic saved match points in that one.
It's a battle. It's a fight. Unpredictable things happen. Somebody takes you out of your comfort zone, right?
The documentary by Apple TV called Boom! Boom! The World vs Boris Becker details the life of Becker including his breakout at age 17 all the way to his 49 trophies including the Olympic Gold. It sees Djokovic appear in it as well as John McEnroe, Mats Wilander and Bjorn Borg as they talk about Becker from their point of view.
