Three ATP events will be upgraded to ATP 500 level for the 2025 season as part of the governing body's OneVision strategy.
Men's competitions in Dallas, Doha, and Munich have been selected for the upgrade from 2025 in a bid to bring more benefits to players, fans, and stakeholders. However, three ATP 250 competitions in Atlanta, Lyon, and Newport will become defunct to make way for the three upgraded tournaments.
Dallas Open, Qatar Open, and Munich Open were successful in their respective bids to upgrade, and each venue has improved its facilities to gain ATP 500 status. In addition, each competition will offer $2.8 million in prize money and around $51.7 million in additional player compensation over five years.
Moreover, the upgrades mean there will be 16 ATP 500 tournaments played across the season from 2025, instead of 13. Further changes from 2025 will see seven of the nine ATP 1000 competitions being extended to 12-day events to provide more prestige to the likes of Indian Wells, the Miami Open, and the Madrid Open.
The latest amendments to the ATP tour and schedule from 2025 are part of the ATP OneVision Strategic Plan, which was first put forward in 2020.
This aims to elevate tennis through three core pillars of unity, improving fan experiences and accessibility and providing development opportunities for the media, tech, data and content.
When reflecting on the new upgrades in Dallas, Doha and Munich ATP Chairman, Andrea Gaudenzi told the official ATP website that the three competitions will contribute towards the OneVision initiative and bring tennis to new fans.
“OneVision is all about raising the bar for tennis, and unlocking new investment in the game. We’re thrilled to have our Dallas, Doha and Munich events step up to ATP 500 status – delivering improved standards for players and most importantly an enhanced product for our fans.”
