Andy Murray is playing a lot of tennis recently and it's in order to get ready for the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.
The grass season is very short and the more matches you can play on the surface leading up to Wimbledon the better it is. Some, like Djokovic, don't mind skipping any prep for the event because he's so good on it. That's not the case for all players and while Murray considers himself among the best on grass, he still opted to play a lot of matches to finetune his body for the event.
The Brit was also chasing a seeding spot at Wimbledon, though that won't be happening after he was beaten by de Minaur in Queen's. He's not done at the event as he will be playing doubles with Cameron Norrie. It's been a while since we saw Murray playing doubles and it happened due to Norrie asking him if he wanted to do it.
I just asked him, saying, Do you want to play doubles at Queen's? He said, Yeah, let's do it. (Smiling). It was pretty simple. Yeah, I don't know. We'll see. I have never played with him before. I think we will leave it to whoever is serving, who is going to call the serves.
Some wondered whether the decision to play doubles in Queen's meant that he would be playing doubles at Wimbledon too but Murray shut down that notion rather quickly. His main focus are the singles and playing the doubles will put more pressure on his body which he doesn't want.
The decision to play doubles was simply a way to get a few more matches in on grass as he wasn't sure how many he would get in singles.
I won't play doubles at Wimbledon. Yeah, I mean, that was something that was discussed, yeah, a few weeks ago about playing, and obviously didn't know exactly which tournaments I was going to be playing or how I'd perform in those events. So, yeah, that was why I decided to play doubles here.
