Carlos Alcaraz had a solid week in Beijing, but it didn't end the way he hoped, with plenty of things needing to get better.
Alcaraz won a couple of matches and looked pretty fair until he ran into an old nemesis in Jannik Sinner. Just like earlier this year in Miami, Sinner outplayed Alcaraz to win the match though this one was even more impressive than that in Miami.
Alcaraz lamented after the match his approach to the match calling it not good and that's some of the things he'll look to change for the Shanghai Masters. It's a bigger event, more ATP points up for grabs so a more serious approach is needed.
Well, I talked with Juan Carlos on how I would have to change it, you know, how can I be better, you know, on that part. Obviously, I have to do my homework, to re-watch the match and to see the things more clear, you know, and study what happened exactly, and be able to practice and be better on this tournament.
I have just one day to practice and then the tournament is going to start, but I think I'll be ready, and I'll change what I did wrong in Beijing.
Plenty of things went wrong for Alcaraz in that one, but all of the are fixable. His attitude lately hasn't been the best, especially when matches do go sour for him, which we saw at the US Open as well. He accurately pinpointed the problem there and did it this time as well.
Now, it's about implementing those changes and moving forward. There is very little doubt he'll be better in Shanghai because the conditions will allow him to impose his will on matches more easily. We'll see how far he can go in his debut in Shanghai.
