Christopher Eubanks is a very well-spoken tennis player, and he demonstrated that by defending Ben Shelton on X.
Shelton has been in the news quite a bit recently, and there are several reasons for that. Firstly, he made it to the US Open semi-final, where he played a fairly decent match against Novak Djokovic, who went on to eventually win the tournament.
That obviously got him plenty of publicity, but also put a magnifying glass over his head, and there are negatives to that. His feature for GQ Sports further added fuel to the fire, and the youngster was called "spoiled" on X (formerly Twitter), which prompted Eubanks to respond.
The American knows tennis very well and also worked as an analyst part-time for the Tennis Channel before his amazing breakthrough this year on the ATP Tour.
He's talented with words and provided some very good responses to the claims that Shelton is spoiled and was making himself a victim on top of not being ready for 'prime time'. Eubanks found it all laughable and deconstructed each claim.
Usually I wouldn’t respond but this tweet has so many falsehoods, I’m surprised Twitter didn’t flag it. Absolutely ridiculous 🤡🤡🤡.— Eubanks on X<br>
You would think someone with such a large platform would understand how much power words have. If Ben’s style isn’t for you, that’s perfectly fine. But to go on to insinuate that he’s been coddled by his parents is absolutely laughable to anyone that has been around them.
Eubanks further deconstructed everything the original poster said against Shelton, which earned him plenty of praise from fans. He clearly had enough of the commentary surrounding Shelton lately, and as a very good friend of his and occasional doubles partner, he had some things to say.
To say that Ben “trash talked Novak in ways the camera didn’t even capture” makes me laugh because clearly you don’t know what trash talk is. Trash talk is usually directed at the opponent where they can hear it FYI.
After all, Eubanks knows him better than any media member, having spent much more time around him. In fairness, he doesn't really look spoiled, but X is the place of hot takes.
If Ben’s style of play or demeanor on the court isn’t for you, that’s perfectly OK! Personal preference. But let’s not just go around making baseless claims about his upbringing, who he is as a person, and things you know nothing about.
