Pliskova Sheds Light On Her Second Split With Coach Bajin

by Alfredo Bassanelli

Karolina Pliskova isn't working with coach Sascha Bajin anymore, as they parted ways for the second time recently.

Pliskova and Bajin already parted ways once but started working together last year in an effort to recreate the spark that pushed her to the Wimbledon final, among other things. It didn't quite work out this time around, and they parted ways once more, and this time probably also for the last time.

For the first time since the split, Pliskova opened up about the reasons for the split, and it seemed like a simple disagreement about how to approach things. It's a common reason players and coaches go their separate ways, so that's not unusual on the WTA Tour. She spoke about the split after her first-round win at the 2023 Canadian Open in Montreal.

Yeah, I've been here in this situation once last year, so there is not many new things. Yeah, I mean, lately I feel like even if I do some changes, the changes are quite difficult for me. Not like when I was maybe younger, I didn't think about it that much.

This time I was really thinking about it. Last year as well. It's not like there would be something completely wrong, but I just don't want to be stuck in one place for too much, for too long time.

Things felt a bit stale for Pliskova, who wanted to shake things up a bit, but they weren't changing, so a change needed to be made, especially since Pliskova isn't young anymore, so she's not keen on waiting too much. Not ideal results obviously contributed as her frustration was quite visible.

There were a couple of things which I wanted to change, and they were not changing. My game-wise; nothing personal. It just didn't work out. Of course, my results were not great, and it's not like I have another ten years of tennis.
