Paula Badosa vs Katie Boulter: 2024 Roland Garros - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Paula Badosa has played some decent tennis recently, but she won't have an easy time against Katie Boulter in the first round of the 2024 Roland Garros.

Badosa has not enjoyed the best time in tennis in the past few months. She's continued to struggle with a chronic back injury. It's not something that's ever going to go away, which means she'll have to manage it to the best of her ability.

With time, the Spanish player is expected to find a good way of doing it, and she's already finding her way. She played pretty decent tennis in the last few weeks, but it doesn't seem like she'll ever return to the Top 10 level.

A good run in Paris would help, but she got in-form Boulter in the opening round, which isn't an easy job. The British player is enjoying her best season so far, collecting 16 wins.

Boulter's rise slowly started last year, and she's up to number 28 in the world right now. Clay tennis isn't her best tennis, but she has a good serve and is pretty attacking, which can cause havoc on any surface.

Head-to-head:

Badosa and Boulter never played against each other, but they are similar players in ways. Both have a powerful serve and hit the ball really hard from the baseline. Badosa is the far more natural fit on clay, having played over 200 matches on the surface, including winning a trophy on it.

Boulter, meanwhile, has played only 21 clay matches so far in her career and has not won a trophy. However, she has won a trophy on a different surface this year, as she has been the better player overall in 2024.

Prediction:

Even with her good form, I find it hard to believe that Boulter can win this match. We should see a motivated Badosa who had time to rest before the event, and I think she'll just get it done.

Prediction: Paula Badosa to win in three sets.
