After Marin Cilic was forced to withdraw from the 2022 Wimbledon, another finalist, Matteo Berrettini had also positive COVID-19 test and therefore won't compete in the All England Club.

Matteo Berrettini played the 2021 Wimbledon final and he's one of the best grass-court players in the world. This year, he missed the majority of the clay-court season due to an injury, but after he returned, he won two grass-courts events, entering the 2022 Wimbledon with a 9-0 record on grass.

Announcements of COVID-19 infections for Matteo Berrettini and Marin Cilic can be worrying also for other players. Especially, the two biggest favourites, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal who trained with these two players. In a statement, the young Italian wrote:

"I am heartbroken to announce that I need to withdraw from Wimbledon due to a positive COVID-19 test result. I have had flu symptoms and been isolating the last few days. Despite symptoms not being severe, I decided it was important to take another test this morning to protect the health and safety of my fellow competitors and everyone else involved in the tournament.I have no words to describe the extreme disappointed I feel. The dream is over for this year, but I will be back stronger."
