'I Want To Win Wimbledon': Raducanu Aims High But Also Wants To 'Stay Healthy'

Emma Raducanu is one of the most talented players on the WTA Tour, and while her popularity far exceeds her achievements, the Brit has big goals she wants to achieve before she retires.

The British player made history in many ways and cemented her name in both tennis and British tennis history. When she won the US Open, she became the first British woman in a very long time to win a Grand Slam trophy, cementing her name forever in a rich part of British sports.

Being the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam certainly cemented her name in tennis history as well, so in many ways, the Brit already achieved a lot that other tennis players dream of.

What's better than making tennis history and being forever remembered by the sport? Very few things, but as a Brit, Raducanu has a special event she wants to win by the time she retires.

It doesn't take much thinking to pinpoint which event that might be, but she's not really obsessing about it. Winning a Grand Slam is the universal dream of many tennis players; as she admitted in the past, she's already one of them.

It relieves a certain amount of pressure because it gives her enough time to focus on what matters in the present, which is building herself up as a tennis player.

Raducnau has unfortunately experienced many injury problems so far in her career, and her short-term goal is to remain healthy and improve as a tennis player.

On the other hand, she has a long-term goal of winning Wimbledon and generally winning more events in the future, but that goal is more likely to be fulfilled if the short-term goal is fulfilled.

"Long term, I want to win Wimbledon. That’s my number one goal. But in the short term, I just want to keep staying healthy and improving my skills. Working on the actual development of them rather than any immediate results – that’s my priority right now."

Raducanu talks her goals

The Brit's most recent tennis experience was at the 2024 Citi Open in Washington, for which she opted instead of the Olympics. It was a curious decision, which she explained by simply having enough time to play at the Olympic Games in the future.

The Brit has been showing a lot of patience in the way she approaches her career because, in many ways, she skipped a few steps by winning at the US Open.

For now, she's simply looking at zooming out and improving as a player instead of rushing to checkmark many achievements. Her level in Washington was competitive, and now she hopes to improve that further by the time the US Open starts.
