Coco Gauff is back to winning ways at the Cincinnati Masters after leaving the Canadian Open disappointment in the rear-view mirror.

Many expected Coco Gauff to have a really deep run in Montreal and in many ways, she did but couldn't overcome doubles partner Jessica Pegula. It was an interesting match between the duo but it was Pegula who prevailed in that match.

It was surprising to many, but perhaps not so much now after she went all the way and lifted the trophy. Gauff was disappointed with that result but bounced back nicely here in Cincinnati against Mayar Sherif. The Egyptian is a solid player capable of playing some fantastic tennis, but it's mostly reserved for clay.

She produced a very good effort here to try and stay with Gauff, but ultimately it wasn't enough as the American cruised comfortably. The opening set took 40 minutes, and both players broke the other at least once.

Gauff was broken once, while Sherif was broken three times for the final score of 6-2. The Egyptian couldn't use her angles and tricks against the American because she was on every ball. Even so, we saw some pretty good rallies from them, especially in the second set.

The first game of the second set was a very long one but one that Gauff won, saving two break points in the process. She kept playing solid tennis after tennis patiently waiting for her chance, and got it done midway through.

The final score was 6-2 6-2 for the American who didn't play a perfect match. Far from it, actually, but she was a menace on return which has been the case since she became a professional. Gauff faces Linda Noskova next as the Czech player produced two upset wins over Liudmila Samsonova and Petra Kvitova.
