Bouchard Set To Represent Canada At Billie Jean King Cup Finals Despite Pickleball Switch

Eugenie Bouchard never put together the career many saw for her, but even so, she's still respected in her native Canada as she was selected for the Canadian Billie Jean King Cup team.

Bouchard once made a deep run at Wimbledon as a teenager which kind of amazed everybody as people thought that we got a new tennis star on the WTA Tour. She didn't quite live up to that though her career was greatly impacted by injuries as well.

The injuries had a particularly negative impact in recent years as she attempted a comeback which got completely derailed by a shoulder injury. It's unfortunate because she did play some really good tennis. Even this year, Bouchard had her moments but once again dealt with injury problems.

It's not been the best of seasons, and she seems slowly to be moving away from tennis as she signed up to play pickleball in 2024. We don't know if she will balance tennis and pickleball simultaneously, but she's just one of many players who have switched to the emerging sport.

Before she does that, she'll play at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals once more. Bouchard was named as part of the Canadian team for the competition alongside Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, Marina Stakusic, and Gabriela Dabrowski.

Overall, it's a pretty strong team, with Bouchard certainly belonging among those players. She's pretty good indoors with a really good serve and aggressive play that fits that type of court. Whether she does play remains to be seen, as she only managed 22 matches this year, posting an 11-11 record so far.

Her last event was the Guadalajara Open, where she lost in the second round to Veronika Kudermetova in three sets. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals will take place from November 7th to the 12th in Seville.
