Belarusian Victoria Azarenka withdraws from Toronto due to her visa being disapproved

Victoria Azarenka announced on social media that she has withdrawn from the Canadian Open in Toronto due to her visa not being approved.

It hasn't been a great summer for Victoria Azarenka who was unable to play at Wimbledon due to her citizenship. Being Belarussian at this stage is not that great due to the country's backing of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After returning last week and losing in round one, Azarenka made her way to Canada but she was unable to enter the country due to a visa issue.

She updated everyone on Twitter:

"Hello everyone! I wanted to inform you that I, unfortunately, have to withdraw from the tournament in Toronto due to my visa not being approved. Its truly disappointing. Its very sad to miss one of my favourite tournaments," she added. "I love to play in Canada with great fans and a place where I made many friends over the years. Good luck to everyone at the event. See you in Cincinnati!"

Azaernka did not specify what the issue with the VISA.
