Anisimova Happy To 'Reset' After Burnout With First Grand Slam Win Since 2022

Amanda Anisimova won her first Grand Slam match since 2022, and she's glad to be back and playing tennis again.

Anisimova spent some time away from tennis after feeling burnt out. The American ultimately spent eight months away from the sport and returned to the WTA Tour at the beginning of January.

It was a pretty decent return, as she won the first match despite some physical struggles. The second match wasn't very good, as it was a loss, but the first Grand Slam match was a success.

It ended up being her first win at a Grand Slam since 2022, and she's relieved about it. Stepping away from the sport did her good as she felt refreshed and actually enjoyed what she was doing - playing and practicing.

"In some ways I do. But the most important thing is that I feel a lot more refreshed. I'm enjoying practicing. I'm enjoying every second that I'm out there. Even when I was down today, I was still just enjoying the challenge."

Any kind of comeback after a long break is difficult. Coming back from an injury is obviously harder than from a break, but even so, there are similar growing pains with both. She's feeling good though, both physically and mentally, with the latter being far more important.

After basically growing tired of tennis and anything tennis-related, Anisimova is back and enjoying it again. The more she does, the more likely it will be that she actually performs well.

"Yeah, I'm just happy with how I feel coming back. I feel like I was very burned out while I was playing, and that really wasn't a nice feeling. Being able to just reset is really nice."

She'll face Nadia Podoroska in her next match at the 2024 Australian Open, which is an easier matchup after beating Liudmila Samsonova in round one.
