'Win One More Grand Slam Than My Dad': Sebastian Korda On His Ultimate Goal

by Zachary Wimer

Sebastian Korda is one of the most talented American players of this generation, and it seems that success was written all over his tennis career from day one.

As a son of Petr Korda, former world no. 2 and the 1998 Australian Open champion, Sebastian had all the insights that a tennis player needs to grow on and off the court. Father Petr did fantastic job raising his children, not just Sebastian, but also his sisters Nelly and Jessica, who are successful golf players.

Currently, Korda is competing at the 2023 Shanghai Masters, and he has had a lot of success at the tournament, becoming the first American in the semifinals of the ATP 1000 tournament in Shanghai.

That came after his most recent win over fellow compatriot Ben Shelton, and Korda spoke about many things after his win. One of those was his injury, but the American also spoke about coming from a family where almost everyone succeeded in sports.

"In the end, we're all doing kind of what we love to do. Tennis is something that I just love doing. It doesn't matter if it's playing, watching, I watch tennis all day long, basically. I just really enjoy being here, really enjoy playing tennis."

After sharing his love for tennis, and love for the sport of his siblings, Korda jokingly said that his ultimate goal is to win one more Grand Slam title than his dad Petr did. To do that, Sebastian needs to win at least two majors.

"Same thing with my sisters, they love doing what they're doing. I don't think there's any pressure with it. Obviously, I would love to be better than my dad. My ultimate goal in tennis is to win two Grand Slams, one more than my dad. That's just, you know, little things like that, but I don't think there's any pressure. I just really love playing tennis, and just really having a lot of fun right now."
