Booing seems to be a hot topic in the world of tennis recently and Daniil Medvedev experienced it once again, this time at the 2023 Roland Garros.
The French crowd already booed Novak Djokovic for celebrating this year, but also Marta Kostyuk for a handshake snub. And while sometimes the booing from the fans is understandable, oftentimes it's not.
That was the case also in Medvedev's match according to the Russian and he explained it also in the past. Previously, the former world no. 1 said that some fans boo just without any reason and that seemed to happen also in his first-round match at the clay-court Grand Slam.
Medvedev wanted to discuss one of the marks with the umpire, but the crowd started booing as he was trying to speak with the umpire. He immediately showed them to keep quiet as he wanted just to discuss the mark.
It's something he explained in the past, but the world no. 2 was asked about his opinion once again during the post-match press conference, yet again explaining that he just wanted to discuss the mark and didn't see a reason for the boos.
"It was fine. The only thing when I asked the umpire to check the mark was pretty close, in my opinion. I was just discussing with her like where does she see the ball in, and getting booed for whatever reason."
The Russian obviously talked to some members of the crowd directly, and during the press conference, he also revealed what did he tell them and what was the reason. But apart from the incident, everything was fine according to the second seed, probably except for the fact that he lost the match.
"I just told them to shut up, and that's it. Because I was discussing with another person, not with them, so they should shut up at this moment. Other than that, everything was fine, I think. Yeah."
