Nick Kyrgios and Daniil Medvedev are fighting for the spot in the quarterfinals of the 2022 US Open and so far, they put on a show.

The first set of their second meeting this year ended in a tie-break which wasn't decided until the 27-years-old Australian won it 13-11. However, in the second set, Nick Kyrgios lifted a pedal from the metal and gave his opponent chances that he used and won the set 6-3.

Yet, it was Kyrgios who started the third set better when he won the first game on his serve and things were looking well for him when the scoreboard showed 30-30 on Daniil Medvedev's serve.

The Australian dominated the rally and had an easy shot on the net that he put to his opponent's backhand. The ball from the Russian's racquet flew high into the air, but on his own side.

Therefore, at the moment that the ball would drop on the ground, Kyrgios would have won the point. Moreover, he would have a break point and a chance to get the crucial lead in the third set.

However, he chose to do something fans have probably never seen before. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist crossed the net and played a volley on his opponent's side of the court what is illegal. Therefore, his opponent was awarded the point and everyone in the Arthur Ashe Stadium was left surprised by the choice made by the Australian.

"I honestly was thinking that was legal," Kyrgios told his team afterwards.
